Watercolor Monotype / 22.25” x 31.5” Framed / 2020

SOLD

I was commissioned by a collector/friend to create a piece for her bedroom. I was given full reign on every aspect of the concept and design, with the only parameters of using some blues, softer hues, no geometric shapes, and having a peaceful, sleep-inducing feeling. It was a real challenge for me, given my propensity toward more crisp lines and bolder colors, but because my earlier experiments for the piece using acrylics were not producing the desired effects, I decided to broach new territory. I went with watercolors, and created a completely new and spontaneous technique applying some of it with Gel plates, and some brush work directly into the printed layers. I really enjoyed the overall look and feeling that I was able to achieve.
